The Romance System

Tales of Seikyu features 30+ NPCs, with 17 marriage candidates (9 male, 8 female) as of the 1.0 release. Building relationships unlocks heart events, story content, and eventually marriage.

# 1.0 Update — New Romance Features

The full 1.0 release (June 11, 2026) brings major romance additions:

• 🐍🦇❄️ 3 new romanceable villagers — Including Yuki (Yuki-onna) who guards the snowy peaks
• 💍 Marriage system — Propose with the Blue Feather and hold a wedding ceremony
• 🦊 Customizable Fox Yokai Transformation — Your fox companion form is now customizable
• 👩🏻‍🌾 Spouse helps on the farm — After marriage, your spouse assists with chores and gives occasional gifts

Gift Giving Rules

Understanding the gift system is critical:

• 2 gifts per week per NPC — Plan carefully; don't waste gifts on liked items when you could give favorites
• Favorite gifts give the most affection (roughly 3x liked gift value)
• Liked gifts give moderate affection
• Disliked gifts can decrease friendship — when in doubt, don't give
• Birthday gifts give 8x the normal affection — always give on birthdays
• The week resets every Monday

# Gift Strategy

1. Save your favorite gifts for NPCs you're actively romancing
2. Use liked gifts for general friendship building
3. Always mark birthdays on your calendar
4. Cooked dishes make excellent gifts — Sakura Cookies and Matcha Cake are loved by many

Heart Events

Friendship is measured in hearts (up to 10). At specific heart levels, heart events trigger:

• 2 Hearts — First heart event (usually a conversation scene)
• 4 Hearts — Second heart event (deeper story reveal)
• 6 Hearts — Third heart event (romantic tension builds)
• 8 Hearts — Fourth heart event (confession opportunity)
• 10 Hearts — Marriage event (requires specific conditions)

💡 Tip

⚠️ Community Tip: Some players report heart events triggering at lower heart levels than expected. If an event feels out of order, it may be a scheduled story event rather than a heart-level event. Check the NPC's dialogue carefully!

# Heart Event Triggers

• Must have reached the required heart level
• Visit the NPC at the right location and time
• Some events require specific weather or season
• You cannot trigger the next event until you've seen the previous one

Birthday Strategy

Birthdays are the most efficient way to build affection:

• Always give a favorite gift on a birthday — the 8x multiplier makes it worth more than weeks of regular gifts
• If you don't know a character's favorite, a cooked dish is a safe bet
• Mark all known birthdays at the start of each season

Marriage Requirements (1.0)

To marry a candidate in the full release:

1. Reach 10 hearts of friendship
2. View all heart events for that character
3. Obtain the Blue Feather (available at the general store once you've met the conditions)
4. Propose to your chosen candidate
5. Attend the wedding ceremony (the next day)

After marriage, your spouse may:

• Help with farm chores
• Give occasional gifts
• Move into your home
• Have unique dialogue each day

💡 Note: Main story events may consume an entire day without warning. Feed your animals and water crops before triggering story events to avoid penalties!
